My Why

​

Born with an innate desire to educate and support others, my journey led me down unexpected paths. Initially drawn to journalism, my heart found its true calling in the field of education. My experience teaching special education and later training teachers about dyslexia resources led me to discover my interest in empowering and supporting individuals and help make a positive impact in their lives. While my fascination with medicine lingered in the background, it was witnessing the miracle of pregnancy and childbirth within my own family that ignited a newfound passion within me. This insight paved the way for me to embrace the role of a doula, merging my love for teaching with my desire to assist families during the beautiful journey of bringing new life into the world. During this transition, I experienced a sense of satisfaction and purpose, affirming that this was the direction I was meant to take.

My Background

​

With a background in special education and literacy, I transitioned into full-time doula work after retiring from a 30-year career in public education which included both teaching students and training teachers how to best support their students with dyslexia. I began my doula journey by training with DONA International in 2007 then volunteering with WakeMed Raleigh's Volunteer Doula Program while maintaining a full-time teaching/training role. Delving deeper into birth work, I trained with Lamaze in 2015 to offer Childbirth Education then certified with ProDoula after retiring from teaching, mastering roles as a Labor Doula, Childbirth Educator, Postpartum and Infant Care Specialist, and most recently Postpartum Placenta Specialist. Now fully dedicated to birth work, I continue to pursue my passion guiding families through the transformative journey into parenthood.

My ultimate goal is to create a safe and calming  environment where you feel empowered, informed, and supported as you welcome your little one into the world.
