My Why

Born with an innate desire to educate and support others, my journey led me down unexpected paths. Initially drawn to journalism, my heart found its true calling in the field of education. It was through teaching that I discovered my fervor for empowering individuals and making a positive impact on their lives. While my fascination with medicine lingered in the background, it was witnessing the miracle of pregnancy and childbirth within my own family that ignited a newfound passion within me. This revelation paved the way for me to embrace the role of a doula, merging my love for teaching with my desire to assist families during the beautiful journey of bringing new life into the world. Through this transition, I found unparalleled joy and fulfillment, realizing that I was meant to walk this path all along.

My Background

With a background in special education and literacy, I transitioned into full-time doula work after retiring from a 30-year career in public education. I began my doula journey by training with DONA International in 2007, eventually volunteering with WakeMed Raleigh's Volunteer Doula program while maintaining a full-time teaching role. Shifting gears after teaching in the classroom for many years, I transitioned into the role of a Literacy Specialist, equipping special education teachers to support students with dyslexia and empowering parents to understand their child's learning style. Delving deeper into birth work, I was trained in Lamaze Childbirth Education and certified with ProDoula, mastering roles as a labor doula, childbirth educator, postpartum and infant care specialist, and placenta encapsulator. Now fully dedicated to birth work, I contiue to pursue my passion guiding families through the transformative journey into parenthood.
